2022 Golf British Open returns to the Old Course at St. Andrews this year for its 150th edition. It was evident that for such an important date he would return to the oldest course in the world, which is considered the temple of golf. 

It is the thirtieth time that ‘The Old Lady’ has hosted the event.

“Most of my recovery was about whether or not I would be able to walk again and lead a normal life.

 Once I realized I could play at a high level again, the focus has been on getting back to St. Andrews and taking part in the most historic championship we’ve ever had. 

I just didn’t want to miss an Open at the house of golf”, explained the Californian at a press conference.

At 46 years old and with 82 PGA Tour event wins, Woods is looking to make the most of his last chances for glory on the course. 

“I don’t know what the rest of my career is going to be like. I know I will never have a long calendar again. 

My body won’t let me. 

I don’t know how many more Opens I have left here, but I wanted this one. It all started for me in 95 and if it ends in 22, then it ends. If not, then no.

 If I have the opportunity to play again it will be great, but there is no guarantee of that. Woods said.

The favorites the Gold British Open

Rory McIlroy is emerging as the favorite to win the 2022 Golf British Open. The favorite tag has been earned thanks to three consecutive top 10 finishes in the 2022 main championships.

McIlroy spoke to CBS Sports and said:

 “For me, it feels more consequential because I’ve played really well the first three majors, “I got off to a great start at Southern Hills, but couldn’t really keep it rolling. 

I had a decent chance at the U.S. Open as well. I finished second at Augusta, but I felt like I never had a chance that week. I’ve had three really strong finishes in the majors without getting over the line. 

I think, for me, that’s why it feels more consequential.

 I’m going in knowing that I’m playing good golf, so it’s another really good chance for me to break this drought I’ve been on for quite a while.

“As well, I missed the last Open at St. Andrews because I was injured. I never got a chance to defend my title from the previous year.

 I never got a chance to go to the champion’s dinner.

 Never got a chance to do this champions challenge — the four-hole challenge — on Monday. 

I really missed not being there in 2015, and I’ve had to wait seven years since then to get back. 

For me, personally, that’s why it’s more consequential.”

Another favorite is Joe Rahm

The current number 2 in the world had a magical 2021. However, this season is not being so wonderful in terms of results.

Rahm is confident of finishing the season strong. 

“This is a very special tournament any year, but the one that is played in St. Andrews for the 150th edition is even more so.

 This tournament brings together many things in this edition and a very special champion is going to emerge from here. 

“What makes me motivated is to win. Of course, also history.

 Becoming the first Spaniard to win an Open since Seve would be something unique, and doing it here would be even more important. 

As a Spaniard, if you do it at Royal Royal Lytham & St Annes, that would be la awesome too.

 In any case, if I won a British, I wouldn’t be very selective either. To match Seve at anything and to win at St. Andrews would be unique,” said Rahm.
