The gambling market in North Carolina is far from extensive, with only two sportsbooks operated by Caesars located in the western portion of the state. Despite this, the state has seen a steady increase in gambling activity in recent years as more and more people have become interested in sports betting.
With more options available for placing bets online and through mobile devices, it is easy for people to access these wagering services without traveling across the state.
The problem is that mobile and online gambling are not regulated, but this does not limit the residents of this state to gambling online.
Why is there no gambling market in North Carolina?
Many hoped that by 2022 gambling would be legalized in North Carolina since a bill was put up for a vote in June.
The bill had the full support of North Carolina’s governor, Roy Cooper.
“It’s here, whether we like it or not,” Cooper said on a recent episode of ACC Now, a podcast from the News & Observer.
“The issue is, will North Carolina try to be on the cutting edge for the technology jobs and other employment that it will create and plus be able to get state taxpayers their cut, or are we just gonna let it happen all around us?”
Unfortunately, the bill was voted down due to an amendment that banned betting on college sports.
Leaving out college sports will mean a massive loss to the state in terms of tax revenue and to bettors who may not be able to enjoy all gambling markets fully.
The problem is that by voting down this bill, legal betting could only reach the state in 2024, which leaves a massive void in the market.
Bettors demand solutions
North Carolina bettors eagerly anticipate the opportunity to bet on their favorite sports within their territory.
A recent survey revealed that residents of North Carolina, who have been waiting for the chance to place bets within their own state, were elated with the prospect of it finally happening back in June.
This anticipation is especially strong when it comes to mobile betting as more and more people are finding themselves using their phones as a preferred method.
The survey also showed that residents not only want this legal opportunity but also understand the need for responsible betting practices and want regulations in place to ensure safety and fairness.
Betting operators must consider these additional steps when setting up a shop in North Carolina. It’s clear that North Carolinians are ready for legalized sports betting and look forward to having access very soon!
Operators outside the state take the business
North Carolina is no stranger to the growth of gambling activities in its neighboring states. In fact, recent reports suggest that Virginia and Tennessee have seen a remarkable increase in gambling activity over the past few months.
It is believed that these two states, along with other nearby areas, have witnessed a growth rate of 40 or more month on month. This exponential rate in gaming activities has been attributed to cross-state gambling.
With the growing popularity of online casinos and other betting platforms, North Carolina residents can now take advantage of these services without leaving their home state.
Furthermore, with Virginia legalizing sports betting last year and Tennessee recently introducing mobile-only sportsbooks, there is no doubt that this trend will continue in both states – and potentially attract more residents from North Carolina as well.
